The United States has voiced concern over reports Burma's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi may have been taken to hospital, and urged the authorities to release her from house arrest.US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack says the US is disturbed by the unconfirmed reports that Ms Suu Kyi has been taken to hospital.
"We will call upon the Burmese Government to provide Aung San Suu Kyi any and all medical assistance that she might need and to do so expeditiously and to ensure her safety during any treatment," he said.
"We are of course very concerned by these reports."
Burma's military junta earlier confirmed the Opposition leader's house arrest had been extended for a year.
